AX1305 / Personal assistant / DN16 Area / £10-11.50 ph / Various Hours

The following vacancy is advertised directly by the disabled person/ representative who receives support from the Direct Payment Support Service. Successful applicants will be employed directly by the disabled person/representative not Choices and Rights. Location: Scunthorpe – DN16 area.

Rate of pay: £10 to £11.50 per hour maximum if pay rise confirmed.
Hours: 96hrs per month respite – 4nights per month.  18hrs per week for the young man.  Also relief PAs required.

Days: To be negotiated
Vacancies: 2 PAs + relief PAs.

Further information:  Female Personal Assistants are required to support a brother and sister in Scunthorpe; he is 21yrs old and she is 19yrs old.  They both have Learning Difficulties, autism and communication difficulties.

The PA will be required to prepare all meals and drinks, support with medication management and to supervise them as they have limited awareness of personal safety.

The young man communicates verbally and uses Makaton.  He needs things planning.  He will need to be prompted to eat at appropriate times.  He also needs prompts to have a shower.  He needs assistance to get dressed as he will not choose weather appropriate clothes.  He enjoys swimming, using his ipad, animals, the cinema, the theatre, dancing and bowling.  He also like walking in the woods, fishing and gardening.

The young woman requires prompting to maintain her engagement when communicating and she can become anxious.  She needs everything to be planned.  She can dress herself, but needs support with zips.  She needs prompting and assisting to take a bath or shower.  She requires support with toileting.  She also communicates both verbally and using Makaton.  She likes bowling, the gym, dancing, walking in the woods, animals, aquafit and theatre and cinema.

Applicants should have a positive attitude towards young disabled people.

Appropriate training and/or instruction will be given.  Non-smoker preferred.  Car driver with access to own vehicle preferred.

Owing to the nature of this position, any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory checking report from the Disclosure and Barring Service, the cost of which will be met by the local authority.
