Two male Personal Assistants required to support a 17-year-old Autistic young man in the HU12 area.  This young man has Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism (ASD) and behavioural difficulties including ADHD. The right candidates should be good communicators and be able to work alongside parents as well as alone in helping care both at home and out and about. Your role will be to support parents and this young man with his behaviour. You will be expected to communicate with parents and follow their directions. This could include, for example, assistance with various household tasks and independent living, helping with access to education, social outings and partaking in family activities. The ideal candidates would be somebody knowledgeable in autism, understanding, patient and tolerant.  This young man can display at times challenging behaviour(including occasional sexual commentary) ; therefore, you must be able to cope in a high pressured and challenging environment whilst providing excellent support.

This is a 2:1 where both PAs will be required to work as a team to manage this young man’s support needs. Hours of work will be 37 hours per week with flexibility required. You may be asked to work evenings or late nights.(all will be discussed at interview)

Collecting medicine from the Pharmacy and food shopping.

Monitoring his blood sugars and blood pressure on a daily basis.

Buying, preparing and providing Diabetic meals three times a day with two snacks each day

A Personal Assistant is required for a lady in the Kingswood area of the City. This lady has a sensory impairment and is registered deaf/blind. The lady is able to lip read and the PA needs to be sensitive to this, making sure that they look at the lady when talking without covering their face.

She requires a PA for holiday and sickness. The lady’s husband works shifts and therefore the PA will need to be flexible with their hours.

The lady employs another PA working 16 hours and it is anticipated that the successful applicant will cover this person’s holiday and sickness hours and vice versa, so there is a degree of flexibility required.

 

The PA will be required to provide support to go shopping, visiting garden centres and to access social activities, such as meeting friends, going out for a walk with her two small dogs and going for a coffee.

This lady has tunnel vision and therefore is at risk of falling, particularly where lighting is poor, when she is outside and unaided.

The PA is expected to be her sighted guide, linking arms with the lady to ensure her safety and guiding her to public facilities.

You will also be required to help with general domestic duties but it is mainly providing support to access social activities. Applicants should be honest and trustworthy, be good at communicating and able to build good relationships with people based on trust and respect.

The family have a friendly cat & a dog so applicants need to be ok with them. This lady is interested in gardening and requires support with doing light gardening tasks such as potting plants. She is also going to college and may need assistance getting to and from college.

The suitable applicant will be self-motivated, able to show initiative, be good at organising and demonstrate attention to detail when completing all tasks. A car driver is preferred but is not essential.
