Further information: A Personal Assistant is required to support a 25yrs old gentleman with autism in the HU8 area of Hull. He is very intelligent and can memorise vast amounts of complex information, but is vulnerable because he struggles to retain brief instructions and is unable to navigate the norms of society, which makes him vulnerable to exploitation and harm by others, both verbally and physically.
He wants to expand his world by experiencing new places and ideas, but fears going out alone and would like a PA to support him to attend places like the military museums, to go bowling, to go Air Softing and to attend the gym. He aims one day to be able to go to the local shops independently.
He can wash and dress himself and use the toilet independently, but at times will need prompting. He sometimes shows excited behaviours such as hand flapping and jumping up and down and needs a PA that can respond to these behaviours calmly and in a reassuring manner, in line with guidance from his mother. He is affected by noise and may need to leave events/situations to get some space and be supported by the PA, if the noise becomes too much for him.
“Owing to the nature of this position, any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory checking report from the Disclosure and Barring Service, the cost of which will be met by the local authority/employer.”
