Further Information: A PA is required to support a 28years old, happy go lucky young man with Duchenes Muscular Dystrophy, who is totally dependent on support and requires a ventilator and oxygen and is peg fed. Like a lot of young men he doesn’t like to get up too early, so would like a PA to start around 10am to support him to get out of bed, washed and dressed; providing his personal care and physio.

The PA will be required to keep the young man’s bedroom clean and tidy and hopefully will have the same interests to engage with him. He enjoys his x-box and going to the cinema and likes going out which happens more during spring and summer months as the cold damp air impacts negatively on his breathing.

The PA will occasionally be required to work nights. The young man sometimes encounters problems using the ventilator which can keep him awake all night. If this happens over a long period of time, his mother who provides his usual night time support may require the PA to work a couple of nights to relieve her.

The young man’s mother will be prepared to provide training for the appropriate candidate in using the ventilator, suction and cough assistance machine. However experience in using this equipment would be advantageous.

Having a warm friendly disposition is a key requirement.

The successful applicant will be employed subject to a satisfactory DBS check.

The family have a mobility car and although not essential, it would be helpful if the PA held a full and clean driving licence so they could drive the young man to respite care out of town. It should be noted there will be requirement to work and assist with the walking and caring for this young man’s small breed dog.
