Further information: A Personal Assistant (PA) is required to provide support for a 15-year-old young man who lives in the HU9 area of Hull.
This young man benefits from one-to-one care and attention due to the combined effects of his disabilities which are epilepsy (absence seizures which are well managed (previously called petit-mal)), a learning disability, and anxiety. There are no personal care aspects associated with this role.
As this young man’s PA, you will provide support with accessing the local community and enable him to consistently engage in his various hobbies and activities, while encouraging him to develop his independence, as well as enhance his everyday practical skills.
This young man loves the great outdoors, and enjoys bike rides, getting out into the woods, and is quickly becoming a very keen and able fisherman. This young man also enjoys gaming – and although his attention can flip between activities rapidly – he enjoys the focus and one-on-one nature that gaming gives.
The successful applicant will therefore be someone who has experience of working with people with a learning disability, is pro-active, positive, confident, and extremely supportive. While the successful applicant does not need an NVQ in Healthcare, he/she will ideally have experience of recognising, and acting upon, absence seizures. The successful applicant will be employed subject to a satisfactory DBS check. It would also be appreciated if the PA had access to their own vehicle/driving license, but this is not necessarily a pre-requisite.
Applicants should have a genuine interest in working with disabled people, be honest and trustworthy, be confident, and have the ability to remain calm. You will be a highly confident communicator, who enjoys building relationships with people that are based on respect and trust.
