Z034 Personal Assistant wanted for a cheerful man needing support with all aspects of his life – up to 13½hours per week, HU3 area.
One or two Personal Assistants (PAs) are required for a gentleman in the HU3 area of Hull. This gentleman is a wheelchair user and needs help with all aspects of his life. This includes all aspects of personal care.
The gentleman does not use speech, but can make his feelings known. He responds well to people who are of a cheerful disposition and involve him in a positive way in what is going on. He likes going out for walks, seeing cars and buses, lively music, and being entertained.
His mum is his main carer and she will guide the PAs in how to assist the gentleman. She will ensure PAs know how to meet the gentleman’s care needs including how to use the hoist that he requires to lift him.
The PAs role falls into two parts, first meeting all aspects of the gentleman’s personal care needs including dressing, washing, toileting and meals, and second, assisting around the house with domestic tasks that the gentleman can not do including laundry and cleaning.
The key qualities for a personal assistant for this gentleman are:
– To be able to work with this gentleman as an individual and be sensitive to his feelings and his likes and dislikes
– To be of a cheerful disposition
– To be able to interact with him and involve him in things that he finds interesting.
– To be ready to learn how he communicates with others.
– To be ready to learn what he finds engaging and entertaining.
– To be able to provide a good quality of physical care for him and to learn about his particular care needs.
– To be reliable and consistent.
– To be able to work closely with his mother and under her direction.
The successful applicant(s) will be employed subject to a DBS check.
