CX605 Two PAs needed for a fun-loving 12 year old boy for 6hrs pw term time & 12hrs in school holidays HU5 area

He is a lovely boy who enjoys getting out into the community and exploring different places. He particularly enjoys:

  • 🌳 Going to parks and spending time outdoors

  • 🏠 Visiting quiet indoor places where he can feel comfortable

  • 🚌 Going on bus rides

  • 🍟 Going out for chips

  • 🚶 Getting out and about in the community

 

About the role

The role will involve supporting him safely during activities and helping him enjoy his time outside the home. He needs 2:1 support because he can become overwhelmed or dysregulated, particularly in busy or unfamiliar environments.

He uses a wheelchair when needed. If he becomes overwhelmed, he may need to use his wheelchair to help him move safely from one place to another and to provide him with a safe and comfortable way of travelling.

He is verbal and uses a few meaningful words to communicate. Staff will need to be patient and attentive to his individual ways of communicating and understand that he may not always be able to express what he needs verbally.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Kind, caring and patient

  • Reliable and responsible

  • Calm and confident when supporting a child who may become overwhelmed

  • Understanding of autism and sensory needs

  • Comfortable supporting wheelchair use

  • Able to work as part of a 2:1 support team

  • Comfortable taking him out into the community

  • Respectful of his individual communication style

  • Able to provide consistent and positive support

 

Previous experience supporting autistic children or young people would be an advantage, although the most important qualities are patience, compassion, reliability and a willingness to understand his needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys helping a young person access the community, have enjoyable experiences and develop confidence in a safe and supportive way.

Car drivers with access to their own transport would be preferred.

The successful applicant will be prepared to have a DBS check.
